The UniverSoul Circus – Not just for kids

The world’s premier African-American-owned-and-operated circus brings the thrill of the big top to Atlanta, GA from Wed, Feb 12, 2014 at 07:30 PM through March 2, 2014 at the Green Lot At Turner Field.*universoulcircus

Each year the Universoul Circus performs 506 shows in 26 U.S. cities.  It features 75 multi-national performers and 17 unforgettable circus acts.  The show is officiated by Tony the Ringmaster and his sidekick Zeke.   Onionhead the Clown delights the audience with his hilarious antics.  Diva the Lion Tamer was my personal favorite.  Other performers include acts like Tyrone the Elephant Trainer, the Flying Chinese Daredevils, the Soul on Ice Figure Skaters, the Gabonese Acrobatic Troupe, and the Ethiopian Body Jugglers. Another one of my favorite things about the circus is the music.  Old Skool, Jackson Five and more.  This is a family friendly event with lots of comedy, laughter, fun, excitement and astounding feats.

In 2010 my husband and I attended the UniverSoul circus in Atlanta at Turner Field.  It was his first time, but I had fond memories of this unique circus experience from the early 90’s in Los Angeles, California.  We arrived about an hour early to find good parking and pick up our tickets ordered online at the “will call” booth.  Upon exiting the freeway, we immediately saw the Big Top tent and found parking across the street in a small lot for $10.  It was winter and the Big Top is outdoors, so we wore layered clothing including coats, hats and an umbrella since it was raining off and on.  After securing our tickets, we entered the Big Top tent where concession stands offering hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, assorted candy and funnel cakes were being sold.  What’s a circus without snacks, right?  Once seated in our second tier seats, we settled in for a fun, date night.  Our seats were perfect. The interactive seat map at the Ticketmaster web site make it easy to select your seating preference. We were like children (well I was anyway) singing and dancing along to the music, laughing and responding to the call of the ringmaster.  It was a fun night – even without kids.
